The Trine State Recreation Area has recently been added to the list of Indiana State Park Properties that will host a series of deer reduction hunts this year. This will be the first year the new Trine SRA will be on the list, which means DNR officials deem the site as having a deer population that is out of balance and needs control.
Pokagon and Chain O'Lakes State Parks will also hold hunts. There are 18 state park properties that will be closed on Monday and Tuesday, November 13th & 14th, as well as November 27-28 for deer reduction hunts.
The Indiana Department of Natural Resources has been holding controlled deer hunts since 1993, which was at Brown County State Park. Locally, the first controlled hunt that was held at Pokagon was in 1995.
