It was a big day for the City of Angola as city and state leaders broke ground on the future site of Angola’s Innovation Park.

The ground-breaking is seen as a culmination of hard work by city, regional, and state officials alike, working to bring economic opportunity to Northeast Indiana. It’s being called a “true community partnership” between the State of Indiana, City of Angola, Trine University, local businesses and community leaders.

The future park, located near the intersection of I-69 and U.S. 20, has been an area of high interest for economic impact since 2004 by a number of different groups and companies.

The Innovation Park is a 50-acre project with about $4 million dollars, including money from the Indiana Department of Transportation's Community Crossing’s Grant program, committed to the development.

At the ceremony, INDOT Representative Jessica Miller said that as a Community Crossing’s team member, it’s great to see projects like this one come to quote “fruition.”

“It really shows that Angola has what it takes to develop their community and to want to bring those businesses in, and bring the people here, and that’s what we’re striving for, is to make your economic opportunity thrive,” said Miller.

Also at the ceremony was State Representative Denny Zent. He told WLKI News that for him, it’s important to create an environment for future generations to stay local.

“As a parent and a grandparent myself, I want something that allows my children and their children to stay in the area, and if the job opportunities aren’t there, they’re going to find them someplace else.,” said Zent.

Developers are looking for highway commerce, light manufacturing, technical, and biomedical related businesses to occupy the park.

Angola First Development, LLC and Speedway, LLC were approved for a subdivision of land for primary and secondary plats for the park. The primary plat contains public streets with five lots for businesses, rights of ways and easements, while the secondary plat will consist of four lots and public streets.
