Angola Innovation Park Ground Breaking Tuesday

SE Quadrant of I-69 & US 20, 2963 W. Maumee Street • Angola, IN

By: Sheila McCrea

Angola’s newest development at the intersection of I-69 & US 20 will break ground today. This development will be the future home to Angola Innovation Park.

This development is a “True Community Partnership” between the State of Indiana, City of Angola, Steuben County, Trine University, local businesses and local community leaders.

The site will be open to the public 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday. The ground breaking ceremony will take place at 3 p.m.

The Angola Plan Commission has already heard plat request for Angola's Innovation Park.

Angola First Development, LLC and Speedway LLC were approved for a subdivision of land for primary and secondary plats for the Angola Innovation Park located at 2963 West Maumee St.

The primary plat contains public streets with five lots for business, rights of way, and easements. The secondary plat will consist of four lots and public streets. The developers are looking for highway commerce, light manufacturing, technical, and biomedical related business to occupy the Innovation Park.

The site has been an area of high interest for economic impact since 2004 by a number of different groups and companies.

Ken Wilson, president and owner of JICI Inc., a Steuben County construction firm, is a leader in the visionary plans for the site, which is expected to accelerate economic development at that intersection.

The Innovation Park is a 50-acre project with about $4 million, including money from the state's Community Crossings Grant program, committed to the development. Wilson is also a partner in Angola First Development, which owns most of the land that will become the Innovation Park and also about another 50 acres in that area.
