If you heard sirens or saw a caravan of emergency vehicles Sunday morning, rest assured there was not an emergency. Several area fire and police departments from around the tri-state escorted retiring Angola Fire Chief Mike Meek home on his final day of service after 43 years.

Angola Fire Chief Raymond Michael Meek officially retired on Saturday, January 4th (2020). He was appointed to the job as Chief on June 1st, 1977.

During a surprise retirement reception on Saturday Chief Meek received the Meritorious of Services from Steven Cox with Indiana State Fire Marshal’s office, the 50 Year pin, a life membership card from the Indiana Volunteer Firefighter Association, an Indiana professional firefighters union retirement pin and helmet plaque. He was also presented a Retirement Trumpet from the members of the Angola Fire Department.

A replacement for Meek’s is on the agenda for Monday’s Angola Common Council meeting.
