AUBURN, IN — Dreams of a skatepark are becoming more of a reality for the city of Auburn with construction is set to begin this spring.

According to a KPC Media report, Auburn Mayor Norm Yoder signed a contract to build a new skatepark for the city on Thursday. Construction is scheduled to start around April 1st, and will cover an area of roughly 9,000 square feet.

The new park will be at the site of the former city swimming pool on South Cedar Street.

The park will feature a concrete staircase with a handrail, as well as horizontal bars and a quarter-pipe ideal for skateboard tricks.

The project is part of Mayor Yoder's end to his 20 years as mayor of Auburn. Yoder has raised money for the skatepark through private donations, which has totaled $230,000 and counting.

Yoder has served Auburn as mayor from 2000-2019.
