Algansee Township Planning Commission Votes Down Dollar General
Tuesday, October 29, 2019

The Algansee Township Planning Commission Voted down a proposed rezoning of land for a Dollar General store 5-0 on Monday night. The proposed store would have been constructed at the intersection of Fremont and Central Roads.

Nearly 200 people turned out for the meeting which forced it to be moved to the Pine Ridge Church, many of which had fears a Dollar General store at that location would affect various local businesses. Many residents expressed their opposition by signing petitions prior to the meeting.

Many in the area pointed out the abundance of Dollar General stores already in the region, as the retailer already has three stores located in Branch County, as well as stores in Bronson, Coldwater, and Quincy.
