Horse Requirement Health Changes Coming In Ohio
Monday, September 30, 2019

In a statement released by the Ohio Department of Agriculture, new veterinary inspection requirements are coming for horses entering Ohio.

These changes apply to all horses, including those intended to participate in the All American Quarter Horse Congress. The intent is to prevent the spread of a disease known as Vesicular Stomatitis.

Health officials say the disease is highly contagious, with biting insects the most common method of transmission. Humans can also contract VSV by coming into contact with infected animals.

In people, the disease causes flu-like symptoms such as fever, muscle ache, headache, and nausea. Currently, VSV has been detected in states like Colorado, Nebraska, New Mexico, Texas, Utah, and Wyoming.
